Leonardo Da Vinci, The Father of Flight

” When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you always long to return“  Epigram by Leonardo Da Vinci.

This flying contraption is called the Vertical Ornithopter or simply known as a Flying Machine. The design is Leonardo’s most recognizable designs for a flying machine. The principle of physics used here is for humans to flap the wing span like birds do as a means of propulsion. He rationalized that man’s muscles are sufficient to power the machine. Having conducted a few experiments on the design that could never be realized: a machine propelled by flapping wings. He then later modifed the design with stationary wings.
